J hadn't been sleeping well for the past couple weeks, but only 2 nights with family up north and she has had 12 hours of sleep each night!
Tomorrow I'm heading out for a long weekend with some friends from college. Can't wait to be refreshed, too!

The Carpenter
When I was younger - probably around 1st and 2nd grade - we lived in a tiny little house in the middle of a big forest. The owners of the house came out periodically and worked on the land and the house and I followed them around whenever they came. I knew that my life's dream was to be a carpenter. I wanted to be able to build and fix things like they did. Now, 30 years later, I clearly was not cut out for the life of a carpenter. Whenever I try to put things together from Ikea, I end up with things like my pathetic white cabinet which looks okay, but falls apart any time you try to move it. I still like to fix things, though. And I don't want any help in my fixing thank you very much. I just want to make everything work better on my own. My counselor is having me read the book Captivating. One thing that the authors pointed out is the desire a woman has to fix things and make them better and our tendency to leave God out of the equation. In part, this is what I've been trying to do in my relationship. I had a whole little plan in my head to make sure my husband didn't forget about me and continued to want me. I was sure that it would work to make him want to work with me on the marriage. The problem was that I kinda kept God out of that plan. Not that I wasn't praying and seeking guidance along the way, but I was kind of ignoring some of it because I was sure my plan is better. So I scrapped the plan this week and at first I was sure it was a failure. I didn't hear anything from him for almost a week unless it was business related. And then I did, and he told me he'd do counseling after his final court date with his ex-wife. This doesn't mean that I'm holding my breath that this will really happen, but I have an actual date and it happened when I gave up my attempts to fix things. I'm letting the pathetic white cabinet go and am holding out for something a lot more solid and durable.
